
This is the Leine river which runs north-south right through the center of Hannover.
It looks pretty sedate now, but every spring there are serious floods – everything you see in this picture was underwater. Buildings and roads are built far enough above the floodline that no one seems to be bothered by it very much.

As you can see, there are a lot of walking paths by the river and through the fields. We walk the dogs here and sometimes even take them for runs with our bikes and use the long, retractable leashes. The
only problems happen when there are dogs coming the other way too!
